A Brief Understanding of the Origin of Vastu Purusha Mandala
The popularity of Vastu shastra for both residential and commercial spaces is increasing day by day. People are relying more and more on it because of its huge scope. However, not many people are aware of the origin of Vastu Purusha Mandala, which initiated the concept of vastu shastra at the first place.
So, let us explore the much fascinating origin of Vastu Purusha Mandala in this blog.
Hindu mythology believes Brahma to be the supreme creator of the universe and all the life forms. After creating the universe and god, Brahma experimented with creating the life. This resulted in him creating the ‘vastu purusha’. With insatiable appetite, he began to eat away everything on his path.
Soon enough, he grew so big and powerful, he became a threat to everyone. In fact, due to his huge body, the entire earth witnessed a permanent eclipse for some time. Thus, this ever growing man soon became a matter of concern, among the gods.
Lords Shiva and Vishnu urged Brahma to stop his creation before he ends the entire universe into nothingness. Branhma too agreed with the same, after seeing the actions of the ‘vastu purush’ as well. But by this time, the man grew way too powerful to be control by any single god, even Brahma. So, he asked for the Ashta Dikapalakas to help him out. They are the 8 gods that’s represents the 8 cardinal directions. They all held the vastu purusha from all the direction and pinned him flat down on the ground, with his head pointing the northeast and legs towards the south west. This gave rise to the formation of Vastu Purusha Mandala.
If fact, he was so powerful that it took 45 gods in total, including Brahma, to overpower him. Vastu Purusha Mandala represents the chart in which all these gods occupy a certain area of the vastu purush with Brahma on its centre.
By this time, the vastu Purusha begged Brahma not to capture him, as he was created by Brahma itself and his never ending hunger was not a fault of his own. As compensation, Brahma agreed to make the Vastu Purusha immortal and made him an inseparable entity of Earth.
He blessed him to be worshiped by people who make buildings on him. They will follow the rules of Vastu Purusha Mandala to please him. Upon doing so, vastu purush will bless them with prosperity and success. In case anyone fails to do so, the vastu purush can tease and trouble the occupants of that particular plot.
Thus, even now, when anyone builds a home or office space, it is highly recommended to stick to the guidelines as per Vastu Purusha Mandala. Doing so can ensure leading a prosperous living ahead.
